Obama’s Folly; “New Gitmo” in Palau
June 11, 2009
I said numerous time during the elections, even Joe Biden himself warned Americans of what might happen, and yet no one wanted to believe that Barack Obama and his supporters had no idea what was going on, both domestically and internationally, especially when it came to the War on Terror. Within the last few days, The One has shown us just that… Gird your loins Palau…
Palau agreed to accept 17 Chinese Muslims who have languished in legal limbo at Guantanamo Bay, indicating a resolution to one of the major obstacles to closing the U.S. prison camp.
The announcement Wednesday by the Pacific archipelago, which would clear the last of the Uighurs from the camp in Cuba, was a major step toward the Obama administration’s goal of finding new homes for detainees who have been cleared of wrongdoing but cannot go home for fear of ill-treatment…
…President Johnson Toribiong said the decision of Palau, one of a handful of countries that does not recognize China and maintains diplomatic relations with Taiwan, was “a humanitarian gesture” intended to help the detainees restart their lives. His archipelago, with a population of about 20,000, will accept up to 17 of the detainees subject to periodic review, Toribiong said in a statement released to The Associated Press…
“Humanitarian gesture”? Hardly. As Ed Morrissey at Hot Air pointed out, Palau would double its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by taking these terrorists. With the government spending the country into debt, they are offering the Pacific nation $200 million take for the Uighurs. Of course neither the Obama administration nor the government of Palau is thinking of the consequences of this exchange, and there are quite a few, including what impact these terrorists will have on Palau’s tourism in the years to come, long after they spent the money the money they were given. As the CIA Factbook notes, tourism is an important part of country’s economy. With the exception of other terrorists seeking asylum, I doubt anyone would want to vacation at “New Gitmo”. I am guessing President Johnson Toribiong didn’t think about that eh? But there is more than just tourism…
The People’s Republic of China is outraged over this. Uighurs are a problem in their country, and they are demanding that Palau hand over there terrorists for trial. This is very understandable, seeing how eight year ago America declared war on Afghanistan because the Taliban, the country’s ruling party, was harbouring the terrorists responsible for the September 11th attacks. Will anyone both acknowledging China’s concerns with this arrangement? Of course not. Neither president wants to actually sit down and think this through, not with what is at stake. President Obama is desperately trying to close down the Guantanamo Bay facility, and will not bother even checking whether or not his country is ready to accept terrorists. Toribiong can spin this as much as he wants, he can say they are trying to give a home to the “homeless”, but anyone can see that he is trying to score political points by angering a country his government refuses to recognize. Seeing how tense relations have been with China lately, The One should have really thought this through… But of course he didn’t…
To me, this seems like a continuation of bad policy. From both Michelle Malkin’s personal blog and Hot Air, we are hearing about the Obama administration demanding FBI agents Mirandizing domestically detained terrorists. Instead of realizing how dangerous these individuals are, The One thinks we should be concerned with their rights and our own safety. On top of this, Robert Gibbs let it slip that the White House has no plans to pursue Ahmed Ghailani if he isn’t found guilty of the 200 charges he faces in relation to the two 1998 embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya. Is this lack of attention the “Hope and Change” America voted for? I doubt it…
No matter where Obama wants to send the remaining terrorists still locked up at Guantanamo Bay, whether it be Palau or now the Bahamas, he isn’t really dealing with the issue… Instead of wanting to do what is necessary, The One is doing what will earn him political points. Rather than maintain a working facility, this idiot is looking at setting up “New Gitmos” both at home and around the world… The problem still exists, no matter where he moves it to… Pathetic…
UPDATE: This coming from Ed Morrissey at Hot Air. Jack Tapper has done some follow-up on the story about the 13 Uighur terrorists being sent to Palau, and it seems the President has upset his country. I have to say it, I TOLD YOU SO!
The decision by Johnson Toribiong, president of the obscure Pacific nation of Palau, to take in up to 13 Uighurs — Muslim Chinese — currently being held at Guantanamo is meeting some resistance from the general population.
As ABC News’ polling director Gary Langer points out, proportional to population, sending 13 Uighurs to Palau is like sending 188,993 Uighurs to the United States.
The Associated Press reports that Fermin Nariang, editor of the Palau newspaper Island Times, has “been stopped in the streets of the capital Koror by locals venting their anger. ‘This is a very small country … and some are saying if the whole world doesn’t want these folks, why are we taking them?’ Nariang said. The government has ‘fumbled the ball on this one.’”
Yesterday the Justice Department announced that it had released six detainees. Four have been resettled in Bermuda, though as ABC News’ Kirit Radia reported yesterday, British government officials are “pissed,” according to a senior State Department official, saying they were not adequately consulted. The UK provides for Bermuda’s defense and foreign affairs.
The Obama administration released another detainee in Iraq this week while a sixth was sent to Chad.
As I said before, no one will want to go on vacation to “New Gitmo”, and the locals obviously know this. While the Obama administration wants to downplay their participation, the Uighurs are a threat to not only China, but the United States and any country which has participated in the War on Terror. As Ed stated in another article, they willingly joined al-Qaeda in jihad, meaning that they are not “innocent” by any means. While it may not be the “nicest” course of action, if The One wants to release them, why not release these terrorists to the People’s Republic of China, the only country that actually wants to prosecute these individuals? Instead of looking out for their safety, Obama should be ensuring the safety of the American people, and you don’t do that by putting your “morality” above what needs to be done…
He still can’t make the tough decisions, and it is becoming apparent to everyone, allies and enemies… Pathetic…
Layton Goes to Washington; The New Democratic Party’s continuing delusion of importance
June 3, 2009
I can still remember heckling the New Democratic Party (NDP) representative in my second year Environmental Economics class. This student wanted to invite us to a party, telling us how ALL NDP members of parliament would be there, something which I reminded him wasn’t too impressive, especially since at the time there were only six of them. I can still laugh at how that student squirmed, especially since he was trying to portray that the NDP was a serious political party. Times have changed, but while they have gained far more seats in parliament, they are still just as insignificant, still as deluded, and still very much laughable as they have always been. Ed Morrisey at Hot Air has a story up about this continuing delusion on the part of “Taliban” Jack Layton himself…
Every politician has moments when their allies do more damage to their efforts than their opponents. Barack Obama may feel that way about Jack Layton, leader of the far-left New Democratic Party in Canada. In an e-mail sent to followers yesterday, the NDP claims that Layton will go to Washington to help Obama achieve his real goal in health-care reform — a government-run single-system just like the one from which Canadians flee…
Layton and the NDP both suffer from delusions of grandeur that are only possible in Canada’s multiparty system. The NDP gets to play kingmaker whenever the Conservatives or Liberals fail to win legislative majorities. They fit better with the Liberals for obvious reasons, but they are far too extreme to win majorities or even enough seats to front the opposition. To put it in a pithy sense, they’re even too socialist for Canada…
Couldn’t have said it better myself Ed. I will say that the Canadian multiparty system does help us marginalize people like Jack Layton and the NDP, and the existence of such fringe parties allow us to identify those who are incapable of separating reality from fantasy. Unlike the United States where someone voting Democrat could vary from a social moderate to left-wing radical, it is easy to distinguish Liberal voters from those wasting their vote on the NDP.
In any event, it doesn’t surprise me that Layton is on this quest. President Obama practically admitted that Medicaid and Medicare were completely unsustainable long-term, on top of the fact that tax revenues are on the decline, meaning there is no money for additional spending on health care reform, all of which would worry the NDP leader. Layton’s war of privatization cost former Prime Minister Paul Martin his minority government, and now it seems that Obama himself will take a serious political hit just being associated with such a hard-line socialist. I have to say I actually feel sorry for Barack, but the good news is that Layton is now his problem for the next few days…
Americans will learn first-hand how demented the NDP really are, and maybe just maybe, will learn just how laughable socialism really is… At least we didn’t elect him leader of our country… Now that is the real joke…
UPDATE: For those who want to know why I keep calling him “Taliban” Jack, well here Rick Mercer with your answer…
Murder is murder, no matter what your party affiliation is. The problem is that there are those who would use such stories to push politics, people who are excited by the death of a party supporter because the loss of this life will somehow support their perverted political beliefs. Those like Democrat Representative Charlie Rangel would use such tragedies to further their own ends, but instead of focusing on the political implications of these recent murders, let’s simply report on what happened…
Last Sunday, while attending Church, Doctor George Tiller was gunned down by a “pro-life extremist”. Doctor Tiller performed late-term abortions, and according to authorities, had received many threats on his life because of his work. What do I think of this tragedy? Simply that, this event is a tragedy. As horrible as his work is, it isn’t an excuse to murder a man, especially not in a Church while he prays. If they really wanted to end the practice, you don’t kill a doctor, you get politicians to create laws making this illegal. All this murderer accomplished was inciting anger towards the religious community, the same community he was trying to “protect”… Pathetic…
Now Michelle Malkin has been following the fallout from this story, and it isn’t pretty. It honestly doesn’t surprise me that the Daily Kos would be using this tragedy to push their disturbing world view, especially not Markos Moulitsas, the website’s founder. The Other McCain has found itself hounded by one radical who has twisted the blogger’s words for his own ends. I am sure myself and other right-leaning bloggers will be accused of supporting actions like this, ignoring that I do believe in a woman’s right to choose (I just don’t think abortion should be a substitute for contraceptives). It is only fair right? Group the moderates in with the radicals, villainize all of us because of the “sins” of a few… Pathetic…
Just a day after this tragedy, another happened. At 10:30 am, recent Muslim convert Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad opened fire on an Army-Navy Career Center in Little Rock, killing Private William Long and injuring another. Muhammed, previously Carlos Bledsoe, was under FBI surveillance since he returned from Yemen. Both Jihadwatch.org and Michelle Malkin are covering this story, so if you want more details, I would recommend you give their posts on this tragedy a read. I will say though that the murder of anyone in uniform, be it military, police, etc is a crime which hurts us all. We should be more protective of those who protect us, and we should all morn the loss of those like William Long, individuals who died in service to their country…
There isn’t much I can say about Adul Hakin Mujahid Muhammed. It is obvious that he is simply a symptom of a growing problem in North America, and until will are able to admit that, crimes like this will keep occurring. We have had trouble recently in Canada due to a handful of “home-grown terrorists”, and it is troubling to see that even with both the FBI and the RCMP stepping up efforts, these attacks continue. As for the criticisms directed President Obama for not condemning this act (as of yet), I say let’s not get carried away. Is it his fault this happened? No. Did this attack happen because of his election victory? Of course not, especially since crimes like these occur no matter who is in office. Is it insensitive of him to not address this tragedy? Yes, but once again, he isn’t the cause of this attack, so let’s direct our anger at the real cause of this, Islamic extremism and anti-American groups within our borders. I have to say it is nice to see that many Huffington Post readers are in agreement on this fact (for the most part). Reading the comment section, I was pleasantly surprised to find outrage similar to that found at various right-wing sites. If anything positive comes out of tragedy, it is that it unites the country (and both sides of the political spectrum) in morning…
To sum this all up, let’s try to remember that both these incidents were tragedies. This is not a time for political partisanship, it is a time to morn. Those who would use such tragedies to further their own agenda are as guilty as the murderers who committed these horrible crimes. Let’s try and maintain some kind of morality within our political debates, let’s not lose ourselves to rabid partisanship… Murder is murder, no matter which party you vote for…
UPDATE: Michelle Malkin has a post up about President Barack Obama’s latest press conference. Seem more than a missed opportunity to denounce the attack in Little Rock. It does seem rude, but knowing Obama, he most likely is trying to find a way to denounce Adul Hakim Mujahid Muhammed’s actions without sounding like he is targeting America’s Muslim community. Pathetic if you as me…
UPDATE: Michelle Malkin is reporting on President Barack Obama’s statement. I knew it was going to “underwhelming”, mainly because he refused to make a statement about the murderer being Muslim or anti-war. Who knows, Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammed may be one of his many voters, and with him still campaigning, he doesn’t want to upset them. Pathetic…
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! According to Doug Ross, the FBI was ordered to “back off” terror suspects by the White House. This is definitely something I would want looked into, especially since it sounds like more of this deranged “War on the War on Terror” nonsense. If true, then Obama does share in the blame for this tragedy. Would it surprise me? Not at all, especially not now with everyone embracing Obama’s “Muslim roots”, an issue which would have branded you as a racist if you dared to mention it during the election. It seems lately he is more concerned with appeasing the people who hate us, then running the country that elected him… Pathetic…
The troubling thing is that this terrorist was planning more attacks… Why the White House would ignore the threat he posed to society is the question here, if not the real tragedy considering that this may cost more American lives in the future… Downright disturbing if you ask me…
UPDATE: Now this infuriates me…
Statement of Attorney General Eric Holder on Department of Justice’s Outreach and Enforcement Efforts to Protect American Muslims
Thursday, June 4, 2009
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder released the following statement relating to President Obama’s historic speech today in Cairo, Egypt:
“The President’s pledge for a new beginning between the United States and the Muslim community takes root here in the Justice Department where we are committed to using criminal and civil rights laws to protect Muslim Americans. A top priority of this Justice Department is a return to robust civil rights enforcement and outreach in defending religious freedoms and other fundamental rights of all of our fellow citizens in the workplace, in the housing market, in our schools and in the voting booth.
“There are those who will continue to want to divide by fear – to pit our national security against our civil liberties – but that is a false choice. We have a solemn responsibility to protect our people while we also protect our principles.”
Americans, just like us Canadians, are a caring and tolerant people. Muslims come to our shores because they know they will be safe here, because they want to be free of the tyranny they lived under in the Middle East. I don’t care what President Obama and Eric Holder say, the Muslim community doesn’t have anything to fear from us. They just can’t help themselves, they have to keep attacking our way of life…
If anyone is to be afraid, it is us. Radicals within Muslim communities target us because they don’t respect our “fundamental rights”, and definitely not our “religious freedoms”. What planet in this administration living on? What colour is the sky in their world? Forget “give peace a chance”, no speech in Cairo will keep these people from trying to kill us. On this D-Day weekend, let’s try and remember the sacrifices made by those who fought to keep our way of life safe. Let’s not become wrapped up in our own self-importance President Obama…
Freedom isn’t free, you have to fight for it. That was the lesson you refused to learn from them, but how could a man like you understand? A man like you who never served his country, but instead spent much our your career attacking those who do, wouldn’t understand that… Pathetic and downright infuriating…
