Here’s the Youtube video which has just gone viral.
The Columbus Dispatch put up a video of Ted Williams, the homeless man with the ‘golden voice’ and in just two days, this former radio announcer has been offered voice over and announcing work from various potential employers, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are not only offering him a job but a house. This from Mallory Simon at CNN’s News Blog.
He’s now known on the Web as the man with the golden voice. But before that, he was known as a guy standing on the side of the road with a sign – just like many other homeless people…
…His story was first reported in the Columbus Dispatch; a photographer drove up to Williams on the side of the road and videotaped him as he held a sign that said in part, “I have a God given gift of voice.” The photographer wanted him to prove it to earn some cash, and boy, did Williams deliver. He rattled off, in a James Earl Jones-esque voice, what seemed like a perfect radio station tease.
The story exploded from there. From all over the internet, including on the message board Reddit, people began tracking his whereabouts and trying to offer him jobs. That led to radio interviews and even an interview with CBS’s “Early Show” today…
For more information on Williams and his fascinating story, I recommend my modest readership check out Kevin Joy’s article at The Columbus Dispatch’s website about him.
I have to say that this story made my day. It isn’t just a tale about second chances, but proof in the capitalism’s fundamental principles. Here is a man who has a marketable skill which has not only earned him monetary fame, but fortune. It is my belief that, we all have skills, vocal or otherwise, that will help us through life. If a homeless man use his talents to find a job, so can the rest of us. With hard work and a little luck, we all could find the fame and fortune Ted Williams now has.
UPDATE: Hot Air’s Allahpundit has now posted on this story. While it is an excellent public relations move to come out and offer Ted Williams a job, I wouldn’t say, or at least want to believe that that is the main reason these employers have approached him. Williams has an incredible gift and it is a shame to see such a talented announcer left homeless.
In any event, that’s just my thoughts on this. I recommend my modest readership give Allahpundit’s post a look, especially for the interview from CBS’ ‘The Early Show’.
UPDATE: Hot Air’s Allahpundit has another post up concerning Ted Williams, the homeless man with the ‘golden voice’. Williams not only did the intro for ‘The Today Show’, but sat down to do a twenty minute interview which Allahpundit posted for our viewing pleasure. I recommend my modest readership give it a look.
Aside from this, there is now information coming out concerning Williams’ criminal record. The Smoking Gun has a post up about it, so give it a look if you’re interested. Does it surprise me? Not at all. Homeless people are desperate people and committing crimes may be necessary just to survive from day to day. Am I excusing this past behaviour? Not really, but I would rather give Williams another chance then condemn him for his past mistakes and keep him begging on the streets.
In the words of Allahpundit, I hope Ted Williams is right that this is all behind him. His story is inspiring and I would rather it end on a high note.
UPDATE: Hot Air’s Allahpundit has another post on Ted Williams, this one concerning how the former homeless man has finally been reunited with his mother. Just like yesterday’s post, it includes video from ‘The Today Show’ which shouldn’t be missed by those who enjoy this heartwarming story.
For those who aren’t somehow inspired by this story, his the latest video from Drinking with Bob. While I don’t agree Bob his opinion on this, I do feel the need to post this video if just to offer another opinion on this issue.
