Before I start this post, I’d like to say that my heart goes out to Angry Joe and others who find themselves in this situation. I don’t always agree with his game ratings or rants, but I find very little to disagree with here. He, like many others on YouTube, have realized that their livelihood is being taken away from them. I can’t imagine the time and energy Joe has poured into his videos or how much of his own money he has spent on equipment to make them. I hope that YouTube addresses this issue as soon as possible.
There are a number of videos that have been uploaded to YouTube addressing the issues faced by those who’s videos are now being flagged. Beyond all the talk about artistic expression and the legality of the use of certain content, the most important issue I can see that needs to be addressed in this fiasco is the loss of income. In today’s economy, it is very difficult for anyone, even those with electronic and entertainment knowledge to get a job. Despite my own past retail and teaching experience, I have trouble finding employment. For those like Joe, who have been outside the regular workforce for a few years, it will be even more difficult. It will take some time for them to find a job that pays enough for them to get by.
In any event, this situation is very troubling. I am hoping that it is resolved soon, but, considering how unresponsive, if not outright uncooperative YouTube has been, this fiasco may get worse before it gets better.
