Spent most of my time last night surfing WordPress and the internet and looking for something to read, something news worthy and interesting. I have found those with a level head, like Zandi at Symphonic Politics who has a very interesting blog and has decided to research the issues instead of coming to a conclusion based on an “American Idol” mentality. It was also nice to see that LA’s National Organization of Women (NOW) Chapter President Shelly Mandell was introducing Sarah Palin at a rally in California, something Michele McGinty at Blabbing covered very nicely. For those who missed it, like I did because CNN, who promised to have coverage at 5:30 Eastern decided that reporting on “Your Money Your Vote” and how great Barack Obama is (thanks Roland Martin for your partisan take on the economy you hack) was more important than showing Palin’s address to a crowd of 15 to 20,000 in the Democratic heartland, Hot Air has a story on it with video.
It wasn’t the most pleasant experience though. You can check my comments for one from Charlotte A. Weybright who tried to correct me with a D-rated fact checker and a piece of useless rhetoric. For her information Snopes.com is sponsored by The United Negro College Fund, an organization pushing for money for African-American students, that put out a TV advertisement which made the bold claim that only black students can bring about the next scientific breakthroughs (not biased? doubtful). Also, how is what I said more “bumper sticker worthy” then “Change and Hope”? With his track record of earmarks and pork barrel spending, the only CHANGE he could be talking about is the suppression of the freedom of speech like he is trying to do in Missouri (here and here), and we can only HOPE that doesn’t happen. I also found my way on to a blog where its author had an unhealthy fascination with my butt and wanting to do thing to it, but I won’t mention anything else he said since I find it overly inappropriate and extremely offensive.
This isn’t surprising though. In my experience, those on the far-left suffer from a below-average understanding of the facts, misplaced aggressive tendencies and a warped world view. I will tell you, I have seen a fair bit of this in my time at the University of Ottawa, as well as the time I spent in China. I can tell you, my time spent in Nantong was very eye opening. I was, along with teachers and businessmen and businesswomen around the city of 7.7 million people (it is a small city in China), invited to attend the Mayor’s Christmas and New Years Party and I will have to say I was disgusted. The party was very nice, the Mayor, a Communist Party Member (like all those in positions of power) was not only well spoken and very charismatic, but could speak a variety of languages, including a bit of English and Japanese (Japan is a leading investor in the city’s shipping industry). How was this disgusting? Well an “Aussie” and a “Kiwi” put on a display of sheer stupidity and downright disrespect, something I thought wasn’t possible for someone raised in Western society when compared to what I had seen during my first two months in China.
The “Aussie”, a heavy set girl, decided to get wasted and make an ass of herself as well as her friends. My fellow teachers also showed utter disgust when at an after party she decided to puke everywhere and anywhere there was floor space before passing out in the back of a taxi. The “Kiwi”, on the other hand, was discussing openly her disdain for her bosses and her disgust of the country during a party held in our honour (their culture dictates they will always show you the respect that your position entails, whether you deserve it or not). This “super genius” had also decided to sue the same people who held her Work VISA for breach of contract because her apartment didn’t come with all the comforts of home (I was promised cable as well as fair pay, and I didn’t get either, and even when my laptop was stolen and I wasn’t compensated for it, I continued to do my job). Neither had a grasp of common sense, let alone good manners, and while you might disagree with their political and social views, you don’t spit in their face over it when they have made an effort to treat you with dignity and respect.
Another one of their friends, an avid socialist and critic of the West decided to extend her trip to England and refused to come back to finish her contract. It appears that even though she was a fan of anti-American and pro-socialist literature, the reality of her dreams was too upsetting for her to take and decided to run back home. She wasn’t the only one though, I had met a variety of teachers who once preached their far-left views openly but kept quiet as the illusion of Marx’s paradise, dreams of equality for all, revealed itself to be a social and political nightmare. This is the problem I see with radicals in North America, and it only seems that they wake up when they experience it first hand. These feelings are bred within academic institutions these days, pushed by teachers an student organization leaders, people who should know better, and what is the end result? A far-left zealot, blinded by the facts on issues and the reality of the world we live in. Once again, returning to Mrs. Weybright, a second-rate Kiki McLean, after being confronted with both a Newsweek and Newsmax story concerning Obama’s questionable campaign practices, she decided to ignore the one and attack the other because she believed it was biased. I should also note that she believes Lou Dobbs is a reporter who has left-leaning social and political views (HUH?). That’s right, she “believes” Democrats now support building the boarder fence and that illegals aren’t the swing voters the Obama campaign is looking for…
In a back and forth between the two of us, she tried to justify her political ignorance by quoting her community organizing experience (a page from the Barack Obama handbook) and asserting that she will be elected to office in service of the Democrats this election. Just because people voted for you, it doesn’t make you right. Adolf Hitler was given 43.9% of the vote in the May 1933 election which appointed him Chancellor of Germany, and we all know how that turned out. Would it also surprise you that his party, the Nazis, were socialists? Matter of fact, Nazi itself translates to the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, holding many of the same views as those on the far-left. Many people will argue that he was Fascist and not a Totalitarian regime, but that isn’t the issue, it was who helped Hitler and his party into power, and that was the distraught left. When in power, he shifted his allegiance and allowed for private enterprise, like Krupp Metal Works, to fuel the German “War Machine”.
This is the danger of the far-left, an angry fringe which needs to be appeased at times to prevent such a rash political rebellion. A vote for a social program, additional school funding helps turn this tide and break their ranks enough to weaken their overall impact on any election. In Canada, the multiple party system we have also divides their vote enough that even in times of political uncertainty which usually allows for a swing towards the far-left. Take the last federal election in my country when the Green Party was thrusted upon the national stage. With environment being a major issue for many campaigns, these radicals couldn’t decide whether they wanted to vote NDP or the Green Party, and while the New Democrats did gain ground, the could have gained more. For those not familiar with Canadian politics, do not confuse the Democratic Party with the New Democratic Party, there is a difference, but you wouldn’t know it with Barack Obama copying NDP Leader Jack Layton’s speech.
Speaking of the NDP, the big story last night in national news was that their Toronto-area candidate Andrew McKeever was asked to step down by “Taliban” Jack Layton following a list of outrageous comments made by the far-left loon. While I do agree with him that American “War Resisters” are cowards (you sign up to get the benefits guaranteed by the American military, but then run off when you are asked to fulfill your part of the bargain? Ya, that’s cowardice), I do not agree with his statement about his political associations (You’re Baathist? No wonder the NDP is so kind to suspected terrorists) nor do I think it is appropriate to tell people your favourite part of Schindler’s List is “when the guard starts waxing the prisoners”. Once again, as I stated above, this anger and outright lunacy is what the far-left is known for. This is the fourth NDP candidate this election who has had to step down for something bizarre; Julian West resigned after it was revealed he went skinny dipping at a campaign event a few years ago and asked upset teens if the wanted to paint his body (AWFUL and borderline illegal), Dana Larsen and Kirk Tousaw dropped out after it came out that they were so adamant about decriminalizing marijuana that they posted video of them smoking up on the internet, with Larsen himself also caught on camera trying to drive a car while under the influence of a variety of hallucinogenic drugs (WOW a collection of bottom of the barrel candidates). Where do they find these people?
I think in the world we find ourselves in that simple morality is being eroded by an increasing demand for personal freedoms which, in some case, violates the law. I feel that every day we wake up we are one more step closer to Sodom and Gomorrah (I think my buddy Nick Carnes will like that I used that reference), that the wholesome nature of Western society is being destroyed by this push towards moral anarchy. While striving for social change, we are losing much of what made our countries great. Political correctness, for example, which used to be the corner stone for equality is now being used as a weapon against the majority of society. Barack Obama and his campaign have abused this, calling racism on everything, including the new assault on his credibility by the Republicans. I find it absolutely pathetic that this man would hide behind his race every time a “skeleton pops out of the closet”.
Voters, both American and Canadian have to wake up and realize that these sort of antics will not be tolerated. Even when the MSM is doing its best to cover up the “mistakes” of politicians they favour, I think it is in the country’s best interests that all relevant information be released no matter who it damages. For example, the RNC has now demanded the FEC audit Barack Obama’s campaign, and after McCain has made his lists of donations known, it is only fair that the voters get to see who has given money to “The One’s” presidential bid. After hearing that Moammar Gadhafi, Lybia’s version of Joseph Stalin, bragged about his donations during a June speech, I think it is very important to find out whether or not America’s enemies are trying to help Barack buy this election.
